BioMedtrix is pleased to introduce the CFX® Nano Hip System which has been developed to provide total hip replacement (THR) for very small breed dogs and cats currently not accommodated by the Micro Hip System. The THR veterinary orthopedic surgeon now has an additional surgical option other than femoral head ostectomy (FHO) for these very small patients, most of which will be less than 5 kg.

The Nano Hip System consists of a monoblock stem with a 6mm head and an acetabular cup. The stems are available with a neck length of +0mm, +2mm or +4mm. The decisionnano_withquartercomplete.jpg to make a one-piece stem and head was driven by the size head and the need to maintain adequate range of motion. The acetabular cup has a 10mm outside diameter with a 6mm inside diameter. All three stems are interchangeable with the acetabular cup.

CFX Nano procedures have been performed by Dr. Bill Liska of Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists, Dr. Dominic Marino of Long Island Veterinary Specialists, and Dr. Steve Kerpsack of Central Texas Veterinary Specialty Hospital. All patients are reportedly progressing well and have, or are expected to return to normal activity.

Prior to the development of the CFX Nano, the CFX® Micro Hip System accommodated small breed dogs and cats.Recently however, BioMedtrix President Chris Sidebotham found that the company was receiving an increasing number of requests for implants sized to accommodate dogs and cats less than 5 kg. In response to these requests, the CFX Nano was designed and presented as a viable option.  Sidebotham reports “the CFX Nano is working well.   We are pleased to offer this product as an alternative to FHO for patients that would have otherwise not been candidates for a total hip replacement.”
