BioMedtrix introduced the CFX™ (Cemented Fixation) total hip system in 1990, and the BFX™ (Biologic Fixation) system in 2003. Since then, over 50,000 procedures have been performed. The systems evolved over this time frame and have since been combined to one hip system, one instrument set, and one technique.

IMPLANT SYSTEM

Both applications use the same femoral neck resection bone preparation, and femoral head and locking stem taper, allowing the potential use of cemented and cementless components in the same patient.

The broad range of implant sizes available in BFX™ and CFX™ components allows the veterinary orthopedic surgeon to resolve hip problems in a wide range of patients and disease conditions. The two applications in the same modular total hip system greatly increase the surgeon’s options during both primary joint replacement and revision surgeries. The common surgical techniques allows surgeons the option to change the fixation method intraoperatively if desired.

INSTRUMENT SYSTEM

Now, one combined instrumentation is available in order to provide accurate preparations for a combined BFX™ and CFX™ Total Hip Replacement system.

OPERATIVE TECHNIQUE

The operative techniques for the BioMedtrix BFX™ and CFX™ components are basically identical. The decision to use cemented or cementless implants is preferably made prior to surgery and varies with surgeon experience, preference and the morphology of the patient’s bone.

WORKSHOPS

Workshops are always being scheduled for the Universal Hip System. For more information and availability, please see our "events and courses" listing in the menu, or contact a BioMedtrix representative.
