The Orthomed castless pancarpal arthrodesis plate is the key to an alternative surgical technique that eliminates the not-uncommon complications directly related to surgery or from use of a post-operative cast.

As studies have shown, the PCA plate achieves a smaller degree of arthrodesis angle without contouring the plate over the carpus.  Since the implant covers more of the metacarpal than most, it reduces the chance of the most common complication causing failure of plate arthrodesis—fracture of the Metacarpal III through the most distal screw.

Following surgery using the PCA plate, only a light dressing is needed to control swelling and the patient is restricted to limited leash exercise—a much less stressful outcome than in other types of arthodesis.
